Atlanta, August 27, 2015 – SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) announces the recent award of a Phase-2 Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract from the Air Force Research Lab, Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to further the development of its novel QuickShot trajectory simulation and optimization software.

QuickShot is a new, modern analysis capability for the aerospace industry in the area of trajectory simulation and optimization. It is designed to leverage the exponentially greater computational capabilities offered by today’s multi-core processors. The primary goal of the initial QuickShot development was to produce a robust and flexible 3-DOF trajectory optimization tool. The straightforward setup and minimal inputs avoid the need for training of “expert users”, unlike other legacy codes. This permits any engineer with a basic understanding of flight mechanics to use the tool. Furthermore, the lack of an event-driven input deck eliminates the need for “embedded assumptions”, another common occurrence with current industry codes.

The 15-month effort will focus on enhancements to the software tool with specific capabilities aimed at supporting the assessment of future concepts for missions relevant to the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense. “We are very excited about this award and the opportunity to maximize the potential of QuickShot technology,” said Dr. John Bradford, President/COO of SpaceWorks, “We look forward to working with AFRL on this effort and advancing the state of the art in high speed system modeling and simulation.”
